The History Of Japanese PorcelainJapanese Porcelain Japan is a country with a rich history of culture and traditions and as such a lot of this has made its way into modern society; as well as having made its way across cultures and borders. Japanese porcelain has a long history and was first thought to have been made in the Neolithic period (towards the end of the stone age). Kilns in various locations throughout the country have produced pottery stoneware and  glazed porcelain. Techniques came in to the country from china via Korea along with the techniques for making pottery, Chinese and Korean designs as well as some from the Middle East are thought to have had a strong influence on Japanese porcelain – one clear example of this is Japanese blue and white porcelain. Styles Of Japanese Porcelain Japanese porcelain has a variety of different styles and forms; and these are often regional variations, or variations that have developed for a specific purpose and have kept these traditional views. Similarly; if the materials of a certain time period limited the colours and patterns that could be produced then these Traditions have often been continued. Some Examples include: -          Bizen-Yaki – a reddish brown pottery from Okayama though to be from the 6th century -          Tobe-Yaki – mainly thick porcelain tableware with blue cobalt paintings -          Koishiwara-yaki – originating from Fukuoka, often in the form of teacups, teapots and flower vases. This style came from a Korean potter in the 16th century. -          Raku-yaki – coming from Kyoto, it is thought to be the best form of porcelain for the tea ceremony. Forms Of Japanese Porcelain Japanese porcelain products, are highly attractive, however they are not solely for decoration, some of the various forms of Japanese porcelain available includes: -          Japanese Tea Sets – tea is a big part of the Japanese way of life, with the Japanese tea ceremony being a very important ritual for when guests are present.
