Welcoming 2026: Looking Back on a Remarkable 2025

Welcoming 2026: Looking Back on a Remarkable 2025

As we step into 2026, we hope everyone had a lovely festive season and a peaceful start to the new year. January always feels like the perfect moment to pause, look back, and appreciate how far we’ve come. And 2025 was truly a remarkable year for our family run company. From exciting events to major renovations, new faces, and our busiest Christmas ever, it was a year filled with growth, challenges, and so many reasons to be grateful.

A Wonderful Spring at RHS Harlow Carr

Our year blossomed, literally, at our popular spring pop-up shop at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, the most popular tourist attraction in Harrogate! This event has become a highlight for us, and 2025 was no exception. We were thrilled to see both familiar customers returning to say hello and new ones discovering our collection for the first time. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, filled with conversations about Japanese craftsmanship, seasonal favourites, and stories from customers who have followed our journey over the years. The success of the pop-up reaffirmed how much people enjoy engaging with our products in person, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens.
We’re also delighted to share that we will be returning (for the 8th time!) to RHS Garden Harlow Carr once again from the 31st January to the 19th April, 2026. It’s always a joy to bring our Japanese products to such a beautiful setting, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors this coming spring!

Expanding Our Premises & Reimagining Our Showroom

A major milestone this year was the expansion of our premises and the renovation that followed. Before COVID, we had a showroom space that many customers loved, but the sudden surge in online orders during the pandemic meant we had to scale it down and convert much of the area into stock and packing space. It was the right decision at the time, but something we always hoped to restore when the moment was right.

That moment finally arrived in 2025. After months of planning, organising, and a fair bit of dust, we opened an entirely reimagined showroom on the 1st of September. Having a whole room dedicated once again to showcasing our products has been incredibly rewarding. Now customers can take their time exploring our tableware, lucky cats, kokeshi dolls, incense, kimonos, fans, and more - not just through images online, but by holding them, appreciating their textures, and discovering their details up close. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it has been heartwarming to see people enjoy the space as much as we do.

Welcoming New Team Members

As our business grew, so did the need for extra helping hands. This year we welcomed some new staff members including enthusiastic working holiday makers who share our passion for Japanese culture and craftsmanship. While their limited English skills mean they may not always interact directly with customers, they work incredibly hard behind the scenes such as sorting online orders, preparing items, organising stock, shelving products, and keeping everything running smoothly. Some have even brought fresh ideas and perspectives that have helped us improve day-to-day tasks. Their dedication and positive attitude have been a wonderful addition to our team, and we’re truly grateful to have them with us.

Award Nominations & Industry Recognition

2025 was also a year of recognition, and we were honoured to be shortlisted for several industry awards. Our company was named a Finalist for Importer of the Year at Insider’s Northern International Trade Awards, acknowledging the work involved in sourcing and bringing Japanese products to the UK. In addition, Jez was recognised as a Finalist in multiple categories at the Yorkshire Leadership Awards, organised by Business Desk, including Best Mentor, Best Sales Leader, and Best Company Leader (up to 50 employees). Being nominated alongside so many inspiring businesses and leaders was a proud moment for us and a reflection of the collective effort of our team.

Our Busiest Christmas Yet

The year ended with a flourish as we experienced the busiest Christmas season we’ve ever had. Both the showroom and online shop were buzzing with activity - gift seekers, returning customers, and first-time visitors all looking for something special. It was a joyful whirlwind, and seeing our products chosen as gifts for loved ones felt incredibly meaningful. Your support throughout the festive season, and all year long, means the world to us.
