Graphic Design and Photography Project with Japanese Paper Crafts
One of our clients, Allie Taylor, has kindly sent us a beautiful portfolio displaying a graphic design and photography project. This features Japanese paper crafts that she developed in her final year of a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design, and we wanted to share her lovely work with you. Her university project work included a reversible hardbound book, event invite, tickets and posters, all made for a conceptual exhibition celebrating her love of Japanese
kimono. Allie asked Hiromi of The Japanese Shop to assist by painting the correct Kanji characters for the word 'kimono', and this can be seen on the inside cover of the hardbound book.
As a professional graphic designer and jewellery designer, Allie buys her products from us including washi papers, mizuhiki and furoshiki fabrics to use in her designs. In her project, Allie has demonstrated how our
washi paper and mizuhiki are perfect for creating greeting cards, or an invite to a wedding or party, while our washi wrapping paper is ideal for making handmade gift boxes (below). She also made little origami cranes that fitted into the washi paper boxes and folded out to reveal tickets.
In addition, Allie has her own beautiful Japanese-inspired jewellery collection, made using washi paper bought from The Japanese Shop. If you fancy having a go at some Japanese paper crafts yourself, The Japanese Shop has everything you need to get started, from washi paper to calligraphy sets. If, on the other hand, that feels like far too much hard work, we have a wonderful selection of
washi paper gifts, including wallets, bookmarks, jewellery boxes and more – several of which are currently on sale. Allie’s wonderful designs, made using Japanese paper crafts, are an inspiration for anyone who wants to try their hand at something creative.
